Meet the Author

Ryan MacDonald is a Toronto-based writer and editor who has spent over a decade covering the Canadian sports betting and online casino industry. Since joining Betsider, he has led the site's editorial direction, overseeing everything from sportsbook guides to slot and live casino reviews aimed squarely at Canadian players.

Background and Expertise

Ryan's interest in the industry began while studying journalism in Ontario, where he started covering local sports before moving into iGaming media full-time. Over the years, he has built deep knowledge of licensing frameworks across Canadian provinces, payment methods popular with Canadian bettors such as Interac, and the mechanics behind odds, bonuses, and wagering requirements. He regularly tests new casino games and sportsbook features firsthand to make sure Betsider's content reflects the real player experience.

Editorial Approach

Ryan believes that good gaming content should be honest, clear, and genuinely useful — not just persuasive. He and the Betsider editorial team follow a strict fact-checking process, cross-referencing licensing details, bonus terms, and payment information directly with official sources before anything is published. Responsible gaming messaging is built into every guide he writes, reflecting his view that entertainment value and player safety go hand in hand.

Experience

Before joining Betsider, Ryan worked as a sports desk contributor for several Canadian outlets and later specialized in online gambling content, reviewing dozens of operators and writing hundreds of guides on topics ranging from hockey betting strategy to slot volatility. He continues to stay close to the industry by following regulatory updates across Canada and testing new platform features as they roll out.
